Assif
is an independent but NNLS-affiliated traditional, egalitarian, spiritual,
educational, participatory weekly Shabbat morning service at the Sternberg
Centre. Everybody is welcome.
CAFE
Community And Family Education, run by a committee of parents and some of
the Cheder teachers, organises enjoyable events, often linked to Shabbat
and the Chagim, to promote learning for and with parents and their
children.
Choir
The NNLS Mixed Choir, under the inspiring direction of Joseph Finlay,
sings in special choral services throughout the year, participates in
wedding ceremonies and entertains at residential homes. Newcomers welcome.
Ethics Group
arranges debates, discussions and guest talks in the field of ethics and
Judaism including medical, business and environmental ethics and human
rights.
Fairacres Community
arranges Friday Night Suppers and other events with and for the residents
of Fairacres, the local residential accommodation of the Jewish physically
disabled. Help with cooking and your company is always appreciated.
Gesher
is based on the premise that study is central to the life of every Jewish
person. Young people must have knowledge of and love for Judaism to foster
their commitment to it and to enable them to make informed decisions about
their future. Combining formal and informal educational techniques Gesher
provides the opportunity to learn skills and debate issues in a structured
but relaxed atmosphere. Extra-curricular activities include outings and
trips to Amsterdam, Paris and Prague. A successful programme of GCSE
Jewish studies is also offered.
Hakol Olin
Hakol Olin is the synagogue’s monthly, traditional, egalitarian Shabbat
service, offering both separate and mixed seating as well as egalitarian
Bar and Bat Mitzvah (as part of the synagogue’s HaDerech programme).
Everyone is welcome.
Hebrew for Adults
on Sunday mornings offers classes to practice prayer-book Hebrew reading
for greater fluency and familiarity with the key prayers of the Shabbat
Services as well as a UJIA class for absolute beginners.
Israel Group
arranges talks, discussions, presentations and special activities about
Israel.
Jewish Chernobyl Group
supports the Jewish community in Moghilev, Belarus, by bringing the Cheder
children for a recuperative holiday each year and supporting the Cheder
and community with resources, clothing and medical aid. More details

NNLS Book Group
meets approximately every six weeks to discuss a chosen book of Jewish
interest. New readers and suggestions are welcome.
NNLS Non-Fiction Book Club
invites people interested in discussing topics arising out of recently
published works of non-fiction on Jewish history and culture, Israel and
the Hebrew language to join them.
Parent, Baby and Toddler Group
is a friendly group which welcomes mums and dads with new babies as well
as toddlers. Meets on Wednesdays between 10am-12noon in the Shul Hall for
socializing, chatting, singing, stories, play, snacks and tea.
Psalms Group
meets about once a month with Rabbi Wittenberg to share impressions,
thoughts and feelings about a previously read Psalm, exploring, over a
period of years, this rich resource of the spirit.
Six Book Group
meets with the Rabbi about four times a year to discuss and debate the
issues raised by a challenging Jewish book.
Social and Cultural Club
This social group for over-50s meets every other Thursday from 2-4pm and
has an interesting programme of speakers and entertainers as well as
providing tea and good company.
Talmud Class
meets every Thursday from 9:30-10:30am to explore the absorbing and
surprising world of the Talmud with our Rabbi over coffee and croissants.
Interest is the most important qualification.
Trekkies
organize regular Sunday and holiday walks in the countryside.
Tze U'Lemad
Tze u’Lemad (“Go and Learn”) brings together those who want to learn a
particular skill with those who can teach it to them – anything from
reciting the blessings over the candles on Friday Night kiddush to
learning how to say the Amidah or the Shema to leading a Seder or a
Service or studying Mishna or Gemara.
The Women's Tefillah Group
is a prayer group that meets on a Shabbat morning 3-4 times a year,
starting with breakfast, followed by Shacharit, Torah reading and study,
led entirely by women and girls in a warm and supportive learning
environment. Participants and non-participants warmly welcomed.
Young Members
organizes social and cultural events for members in their twenties and
thirties.
