Melech Rachaman
Recorded by Chazzan Jeremy Burko
The prayer Melech Rachaman is recited in Mussaf Amidah on each of the Shalosh Regalim, expressing our joy and gratitude in having been bestowed the tradition of our festival celebrations. This recording is Chazzan Jeremy's own arrangement and compilation of a wide variety of Jewish musical traditions. The opening is a cantorial recitative by Adolph Katchko (1877-1958), followed by a modern "a cappella" twist on a traditional Jewish folk melody. When the prayer quotes from the torah (kakatuv betoratecha), the melody switches into American/Israeli torah trope, also borrowing the signature musical themes of each of the three festivals as they are mentioned. The prayer concludes with the Shalosh Regalim motif, according to the tradition of Eastern European nusach.
